COVID-19: What To Do While You Wait

What To Do While Prometric Testing Centers Are Closed

COVID-19 has caused wariness and fear throughout the United States and the rest of the world. As a precaution, many businesses are closing brick-and-mortar locations to in-house patrons and are only providing services and products curbside or by delivery. Unfortunately, NCEES test-takers do not have the ability to take standardized FS and PS tests from home. For those surveyor students and professionals ready to take their Fundamentals of Surveying or Principals & Practices of Surveying exams, this can be a frustrating time.

Prometric, the national testing center that provides NCEES exams, has announced that many of their testing cents will be closed throughout the country. Luckily, these closures vary city-by-city and state-by-state. By scanning site closures on their website, as of writing this blogpost, most of the closed Prometric centers should reopen within two weeks; barring any further extensions or announcements. There are centers that have chosen to remain open, but that could change in the future. The question that ready and eager test takers are posing right now is: What do I do now that my land survey exam date is uncertain?

Well, NLC Prep has the answer…

What Land Survey Examinees Can Do If They Are Unable to Access a Prometric Testing Center

For those ready to take their exam, there are several things you should keep in mind while you wait. First, make sure you continue studying; now is not the time to slack off when it comes to study hours. Maintain the same study regimen you’ve been doing since you started to prepare for your exam. If you run out of study material, stay sharp by utilizing workbooks or watching instructional videos. NLC Prep has a variety of practice problems and testing tricks and tips. Stay consistent with studying, but make sure you don’t overwork yourself. Feeling burnout by test time can negatively impact your score.

For those who are stuck at home or the office without being able to work in the field, there are things you can do to during this pandemic. Make sure you are using your time effectively. Why not take an online course to get your licensed or increase your skill set by becoming licensed in a different state? Spend time with your family and stay safe, but make sure your off-time is productive.

In the end, keep in mind that this too shall pass. Whether your eager to take your exam or not sure what to do while work is slow, ensure your time hunkering down is spent wisely. Our closing message to the ready is this:  Stay safe, stay smart, and make sure you wash your hands. Come out on the other side of this pandemic smarter, credentialed, and ready to improve your land survey career.
